A few posts ago I discussed DC and Marvel’s plans for the
small screen, and now I have decided that I wanted to make my own recommendations
for shows that I would love to see on television. And the Suicide Squad was the first thing that
popped into my head. The Suicide Squad is a team of B and C list Super villains
who are inmates at Belle Reve Penitentiary that the U.S. government has deemed
useful. The team is essentially a super-villain Black Ops group who the government
has blackmailed and threatened into serving their country. They are led by government Agent Amanda Waller
a.k.a. “The Wall” who gives the group their assignments and keeps them in check
on their missions. The suicide Squad could
work perfectly for a DC Televised Universe that coexist with the CW’s Arrow
because the suicide squad can easily be cast by super-powerless villains which
would help maintaining the realism that Arrow prides itself on. As for the cast, you have to have the team’s
field leader the assassin Deadshot, who has already made several appearances on
Arrow. The calculating Clock King is known or his strategic planning and the
show could benefit from having a calm and collected member who is forced to
work with spontaneous and irrational teammates. Plastique, the bombs and weapons
expert could be part of the teams muscle. And speaking of muscle Captain
Boomerang, who is known for constantly bickering and disobeying Deadshots’
orders could do wonders for the show and provide us with some comic relief.
With this cast the show would not have to worry about spending a huge portion
of its budget on low end CGI, a problem Smallville faced, and it could focus
its budget on other things such as actors or locations. The focus of the Suicide
Squad should be how these different characters struggle to achieve their tasks
working with one another, as well as the problems they face being pawns of the government.
The Suicide Squad should also be about how the United States’ deals with domestic
terrorism in the DC universe. An obviously
this show should be on the CW, so that it make a plethora of references to
Arrow, and hell maybe we could even see a crossover event. I think the suicide
squad has the potential to be one of DC entertainments greatest hits if it is
down well and sticks to the realism that has made Arrow successful. So what do
you think? Do you think the Suicide Squad has the potentially to shine on
network television or is there another show you would love to see DC
Entertainment develop that co-mingles with Arrow? Do want the Suicide Squad to
be realist or would you prefer to have the show relate more to its comic
counterpart? Finally, which super-villains
would you like to see as part of the team? Leave your comments down below. And
look for my other recommendations in the future.

Microsoft Admits that they @#$%ed Up
You can imagine my surprise as I was scrolling down Facebook
and noticed an article discussing how the Xbox One had forgone another inverse in its policies. Microsoft did the unthinkable and actually
put gamers first, or so they say. Apparently all of the backlash that they
garnered from their terrible E3 release made it back to them, and they listened.
After a series of middle fingers that were given to the Xbox One Facebook page
and thousands of posts all over the internet damning the console to the ninth
circle of hell, Microsoft executives made the smartest decision that they have
made since the initial conception of the console and that was to not only
remove the always online and 24 hour check-in requirements, but also to remove
the used game draconian doctrines that had gamers bashing the mere mention of Microsoft
or its new offspring. The executives exclaim that the Xbox One will allow you
to play games just like you do now on your 360. While this is great news for
the company and their retailers, is it good news for us gamers? As a game, I
find it very hard to believe that they thought all these new policies were
going to fly within the world of gaming, and that gamers were going to chose a
system that is basically punishing them for the sins of a few, over a system
that rewards its loyal fan base with freedom. Microsoft now want us to believe that
they put gamers first, but if they had done that from the very start they may
have avoid this whole fiasco and the Xbox One would have been the real show
stealer of E3. So what do you think? Do you think it is good that Microsoft is
actually listening to its fan base so late in the game? Are you more inclined
to buy a Xbox One or has the damage already been done? Finally, do you think
the Xbox One would have been better received if it had never adopted gamer hating
policies that start this whole controversy in the first place?

DC and Marvel Suit Up for the Television War!
With Marvel’s Agents of Shield coming to television this
September, we see a new conflict arising between DC and Marvel comics. This rivalry
between these two franchises was born in comics and then moved to animation,
and is currently being fought in the realm of film with DC kicking off their
cinematic universe with Man of Steel (review coming later). Now we see that this competition has moved to
live-action television. The CW’s first season of arrow was considered such a
success that there were rumors floating around the internet that DC decided to
create a DC televised universe. These rumors soon became somewhat true once
news arrived that the CW was pushing forward with its new Wonder Woman show
titled Amazon, as well as Eric Kripke’s (the creator of Supernatural) the
Deadman, and that Sci-Fi has green lit a Booster Gold television show. Now the interesting
thing about these developments is that there has been no news confirming that
any of these planned shows will be tied to Arrow or to each other, but they are
all DC and Warner Bros. properties. Do you think DC does not want to draw lines
between these shows between they will more likely than not have opposing tones?
Should these three new TV shows be interconnected
with arrow or should day all represent their own respective universes and honor
the character that they are being created for? I guess only time will tell. Also,
I find it interesting that Marvel has decided to make their Shield live-action television
show connect to their cinematic universe. Many
feel that by adding this TV show to their cinematic universe it will subtract
from the greatness of those films. What do you guys think? Do you think that
the Marvel universe will suffer from having a television show absorbing some of
its material or do you think that having the show share a universe with the
films will contribute to success of future films? Also what other characters would
you like to see it show up on your screen at home?
A little about myself
Hey everyone I am really bad at these about me things but here goes. I am currently a senior at Bard College, in Hudson Valley NY, majoring in political theory. I also have a strong passion for theater, especially play-writing and Dramaturgy. I am a huge comic book fan with DC, Marvel, Image, and Boom Studios as the main publishers that I follow. My favorite series at the moment is Robert Kirkman's the Walking Dead.
I am also reading pretty much all of DC's Batman comics (sans Nightwing and Batgirl, nothing against them), Suicide Squad, Earth-2, Wonder Woman, Justice League (original, Dark, and America), Superman Unchained, Birds of Prey,World's Finest, the Uncanny Avengers, Uncanny X-Men, All New X-Men, X-Men, Suicide Risk, and Supurbia.
As for Television shows my top picks are: The CW's Arrow, and Supernatural, AMC's the Walking Dead (of course), ABC's Scandal, and Hopefully Marvel's Agents of Shield, CBS' Elementary, NBC's Law & Order: SVU, HBO's Game of Thrones, and FX's the Americans.
My favorite movies are: Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Jackie Brown, Django Unchained, Citizen Kane, Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Resident Evil (Guilty Pleasure), Memento, Star Wars (the original trilogy) Silence of the Lambs, 12 Angry Men, Night of the Living Dead, and Dawn of the Dead (original and remake).
So if any of these things have any serious developments you can expect a post from me!
